Casa de mi Padre [2012]
Anyone remember Martin Short’s character Cheap Laughs on SCTV’s Six Gun Justice? Well this is kinda like that.

Film #033 of 2013
Director: Matt Piedmont Cast: Will Ferrell [Armando], Diego Luna [Raul] & Genesis Rodriguez [Sonia]
Plot: Scheming on a way to save their father’s ranch, the Alvarez brothers find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord. Source IMDB.com
Hipster Review: There’s so much to hate about Casa de mi Padre, but there’s also so much to like – this all Spanish speaking production seems to breed its roots from much funnier Western satires like Blazing Saddles and SCTV’s Six Gun Justice…it’s wacky ‘cheap film’ humor uses fake sets, bad dissolves and failed continuity between camera shots which really isn’t everyone’s cup of Mojitos. Watched January 30th, 2013.

Highlights:
- Filthy Rancher Armando and his two amigos – Esteban de Los Santos Escobar Chavez and Manuel
- The Pond of the Seven Tears
- Raul smoking a Canadian Slim while his bride walks down the aisle…this leads to a gruesome wedding massacre
- A thrilling Western-style gun fight between the drug cartels
- Bottle smashing and the Mexican Cha Cha around the firepit
Biggest Surprise: How serious Will Ferell’s demeanor was throughout the entire film.
Biggest Let Down: After an awkward bum squeezing love scene, Ferrell gets it on with a Mannequin.
Does the guy get the hot girl in the end? Its’s quite possible that the hombre actually gets the pretty little Señorita.
Worth a Blu-ray purchase? Yes, plenty of replay value.
Similar to: Blazing Saddles [1974], Three Amigos! [1986].

Will Ferrell? A big yes or a big no?

As much as I hate Ferrell – I’ve been tempted to see this….
It’s a must. Keep in mind, Ferrell keeps a straight face throughout so it’s not usually ‘funny ha ha’ self. I know you’re not a Ferrell fan, but this is one you should check out.
I’ll give it a shot… I think it’s still out there and I have to pay for it ~ I’ll wait til it’s free : )
Netflix man….
Sometimes it can be funny, other times, it tries way too hard. Either way, Ferrell is always fun to watch. Good review.
This movie is an instant classic.
It was, I cannot wait to watch it again!
I am a fan of Ferrell, if you don’t like Anchorman your wrong!
I agree, LOVE Anchorman!
I’ve been curious about checking this out. I see it’s on Netflix Instant now so I might have to give it a shot.
It’s worth it. It may take a while to get going but by the end you’ll be happy you watched it. I saw it on Netflix as well.
Overall I couldn’t really connect with this picture. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t have its good points. Perhaps my favorite parts and what I felt were the funniest moments involved the intentional cheap production value. It was brilliantly done and extremely funny!
It was wasn’t it. I love when they zoom in on the guys glasses and in the reflection you can see the production assistant eating his lunch. Pure gold!
I like Will Ferrell myself, I’ve seen most of his movies. Not had the chance to catch this or The Campaign yet but I’ve put this on my list after your review. Thanks!
Oh it’s incredible if you’re a Ferrell fan, it’ll crack you up!
Ferrell is funny, but this one turns me off a wee bit. I normally make a distinct point of watching any new Ferrell movies but I was never sold on this one.
Ahhhh!!!! Lol
I wasn’t sure what I was watching in the beginning but as soon as I started to realize what they were trying to achieve with cheap effects and such, I thought it turned out well.
