Looper [2012]
The Barman says, “I’m sorry, we don’t serve time travelers here.” Time traveler walks into a bar.

Film #060 of 2013
Director: Rian Johnson Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt [Joe], Bruce Willis [Old Joe] & Emily Blunt [Sara]
Plot: In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ by transporting back Joe’s future self. Source IMDB.com

Hipster Review: Its plot, execution and performances are all multi-dimensional – soliciting post discussion like no other film of 2012…it’s Blade Runner, the Terminator and Firestarter all lumped up into one high impact visionary time warp in which Joseph Gordon-Levitt is simply remarkable. Watched December 5th, 2016.

“I don’t want to talk about time travel because if we start talking about it then we’re going to be here all day talking about it, making diagrams with straws.” Old Joe

Highlights:
- Body bags, assassins, gold bars and a farmhouse
- A cup of coffee and a chat at the diner
-
Pierce Gagnon as Cid
- The futuristic world of 2044 created by Rian Johnson
- Don’t watch it high
Biggest Surprise: Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s makeup and mannerisms will make you believe he’s a young Bruce Willis.
Biggest Let Down: The only thing I didn’t like was Jeff Daniels as Abe, I like the actor just not in this.
Does the guy get the hot girl in the end? Perhaps in the past when the future arrives.
Worth a Blu-ray purchase? I already bought it in the past, or was it the future?
Similar to: The Terminator [1984], Firestarter [1984].

An excellent movie and an excellent post!
Thank you sir!!!
Excellent write up. I wanna see this. But I have so much to replace plus things I was meaning to buy certain films have to wait. But this looked really good
LOL, nice write-up on this movie. I completely disagree, and thought it was a waste of time, but I enjoyed what you wrote, especially the time travel jokes.
Thanks, too bad you didn’t enjoy it though. I’ve come across many people who share your opinion. Thanks for stopping by.
Great opening joke. LOL. I concur with your review as well.
A fun joke to liven everyone up on Friday! Beers to follow.
Great review, Rian Johnson is one of the great up and coming directors working today. Also I had to RT that tweet from George nice grab lol
I SO wanted to like this but just couldn’t get into it. Not sure if I just wasn’t in the mood for this sort of thing that night or what.
It’s the type of film you really need to focus on. If you don’t have your concentration helmet on, it may get a little hard to get into.
I definitely was NOT wearing my concentration helmet that night – it was out at the cleaners – so that was probably it.
Maybe Eric borrowed it from you and forgot to give it back.
Great post, man (and awesome poster!) Looper didn’t fully met my expectations but I still liked it a lot. The best thing was that it was surprisingly poignant and I loved the performances by Gagnon and Blunt.
Yeah, even if you’re put off by the story the acting alone is worth a watch.
Glad you liked it. You picked a good quote too. And I love your opening (gave me a chuckle).
Good…that was my intention. The new site looks great Nick!
Okay, now I really want to see it. Awesome review.
Thanks, it’s a must see in my books Elena.
“The Barman says, “I’m sorry, we don’t serve time travelers here.” Time traveler walks into a bar.” This is why I visit this site every day.
…and truly appreciate you coming to visit everyday.
I was annoyed they messed with JGL’s face, and then something plot wise I wont ruin here made it even worse. I felt disappointed with this…..
That’s too bad, my wife and I really enjoyed it. I thought the makeup on JGL was spot on too.
One of my favorites from last year, such unique and refreshing sci-fi! Glad you liked this one too.
Thanks Sati, it was definitely in my top 10. I think I enjoyed it even more the second time around on Blu-ray. Once you’ve cracked the complex plot details it’s quite enjoyable.
I liked this one a lot Chris. I expected it to be a little tighter though and like you mention, young Gagnon was magnificent in it. I also liked Levitt’s channeling of Willis. He was better at being Willis than Willis was at himself LOL. Nice write-up buddy!
He was a better than Willis as Willis, you got that right Mark! My wife and I saw this together at the theater and we really had a good time with it.
A crazy movie that had me thrilled from start-to-finish, but left me a bit disappointed. Didn’t love it, but really liked what Johnson was able to do with it all. Good review.
That’s too bad, at the end of this film my wife and I both looked at each other and said ‘wow’!
Yes! My film of 2012! A controversial choice, but I loved it. Also… more Pierce Gagnon in everything please? Great review dude. A solid score.
Thanks, I think your choice for it as best of 2012 is on the mark actually. It’s my wife’s fav of 2012 as well.
Great review. I saw commercials advertising this and was intrigued–and now I know it’s worth the time!! I thought that dude that played the young Willis–just from the trailers–looked a lot like him, as well. I’d be interested to see mannerisms…
Oh he’s dead on with his mannerisms. Wait until you see it, you’ll be amazed!!!
I have nominated you for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award.
Ahhh!!! Thanks so much!
